A 56-year-old man was killed behind the wheel of his car when a speeding Mercedes Benz driver struck his driver’s side door in Hunts Point.

According to police, the incident happened last night, just before 6:21 p.m. by Oak Point Avenue and Manida Street. The driver of that car and its passengers then fled the scene using another car in the area.

NYPD sources reported that the driver of a 2012 Mercedes Benz S550, was moving eastbound on Oak Point Avenue at “an apparent high rate of speed.” The driver then collided with the victim’s 2005 Chrysler Town and Country Suburban, which was heading northbound on Manida Street through its intersection with Oak Point Avenue.

Then the driver of the Suburban was turned eastbound, striking into a parked car before halting while the Mercedes crashed into a northbound building on Oak Point Avenue.

The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital with reported trauma to his body where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
