What’s Happening: Six ways to commemorate 9/11 in the Bronx

Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 9-10

Milwaukee Brewers at New York Yankees, 7:05 p.m. on Saturday and 1:35 p.m. on Sunday at Yankee Stadium, 1 E. 161st St. 

Pay tribute to the firefighters of New York and nationwide by attending the First Responders Games at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees will play against the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game set spread across Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Monday, Sept. 11

9/11 Memorial at Jacobi, 8:30 a.m. at the Jacobi 9/11 Memorial Garden (next to Building No. 2), 1400 Pelham Pkwy S

Attend Jacobi Medical Center’s annual morning service to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, which will take place at its permanent 9/11 monument that lists the names of the Bronxites who lost their lives during the World Trade Center attacks. The memorial will begin at 8:30 a.m., with visitors expected to arrive by 8:15 a.m. Parking can be found on the Jacobi campus near the Memorial Garden. 

FDNY 9/11 Memorial, 7 p.m. at the Throggs Neck Memorial near Engine 72, 3929 E. Tremont Ave.

Join the Throggs Neck community and the New York City Fire Department at the Engine 72 fire station in their annual memorial service for 9/11 victims. The gathering will begin at 6:15 p.m. and the service will follow at 7 p.m., accompanied with the sunset. 

NYPD 9/11 Memorial, 8 a.m. at the NYPD 45th Precinct, 2877 Barkley Ave.

Join fellow Bronxites in front of the NYPD’s 45th Precinct at their 9/11 memorial ceremony. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and will take place in front of the precinct. 

 

Wednesday, Sept. 13

9/11 Day of Remembrance, 12 p.m-2 p.m. at Lou Gehrig Plaza, 161st Street between Walton Avenue and Grand Concourse

Commemorate, alongside Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, the borough’s annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance for the 143 residents and first responders who perished on 9/11. The event will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 2 p.m on Wednesday and will take place at Lou Gehrig Plaza at 161st Street between Walton Avenue and Grand Concourse. Reserve a spot here. 

Sunday, Oct. 8

The Daffodil Project, 10 a.m-1 p.m. at Mill Pond Park, Major Deegan Exwy between East 150 Street and East 153 Street

Contribute to The Daffodil Project, in which New Yorkers gather annually to plant thousands of yellow daffodils in every borough to commemorate the victims of the 9/11 attacks. Sign up here for free bulbs, which you can collect next Saturday at Mill Pond Park — and then it’s time to plant!
