The 2017 Congo Square Rhythms Festival presented a lineup of distinguished music groups and dance companies from New Orleans and aboard.

This year, Bronx-based Bombazo Dance Company was among the several dance companies featured at Congo Square on Saturday, March 18.

Led by Puerto Rico native Milteri Tucker Concepcion, Bombazo performed traditional Afro Puerto Rican Bomba and its connection to Congo Square’s Bamboula.

Bombazo Dance Company first presented Bomba in 2014 and was invited back by popular demand to this year’s festival.

The company led a Bomba drum and dance circle on Sunday, March 19 and for the first time presented Bomba at the Whitney Plantation.
