In a show of camaraderie that transcends baseball rivalries, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce have agreed to a friendly bet on the World Series matchup between their home teams, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
In a show of camaraderie, the chambers have entered into a light-hearted, non-monetary agreement, underscoring the bonds that exist between the two cities despite their teams’ fierce rivalry.
Under the terms of the deal, executives from the chamber in the losing city will wear shirts proclaiming their love for the winning city—donning slogans such as “I Love New York” or “I Love Los Angeles”—and accessorized with the winning chamber’s promotional items, including pins or other keepsakes. The show of good-natured sportsmanship will last for five days, from Nov. 4 through Nov. 8, with daily social media photos featuring the executives, their shirts, and a local newspaper to verify the date.
“We are thrilled to engage in this fun and unique exchange with our colleagues in the Bronx,” said Maria S. Salinas, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce in a statement. “This agreement reflects our shared commitment to supporting local businesses, celebrating our sports teams, and fostering a business-friendly environment in our respective cities.”
Lisa Sorin, President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, echoed Salinas’s sentiment, highlighting the importance of the friendly exchange in celebrating the economic and community impact of sports. “Our teams may compete on the field, but the bond between our cities is stronger than any rivalry,” Sorin said. “This initiative highlights the economic impact that sports teams have on local businesses, especially when they excel, and serves as a reminder of the vibrant connections between our communities.”
Both chambers emphasize the positive influence that successful sports franchises can have on local economies, driving business growth, boosting tourism, and creating jobs while uplifting community spirit.
The Bronx Chamber and Los Angeles Chamber are encouraging residents in both cities to rally behind their teams.
