A car fire on the Cross Bronx Expressway caused traffic delays during last Friday’s rush hour.

According to a FDNY spokesman, a Jeep erupted into a fireball on the Cross Bronx Expressway, just south of the Castle Hill off ramp on Friday, August 19 at 6:08 p.m.

Police shutdown the northbound lane as three FDNY engine companies, two truck companies and one battalion chief arrived on scene at 6:14 p.m.

After getting the blaze under control, firefighters continued pouring water and chemicals into the vehicle as they checked for any remaining hot spots.
