The Chippewa Democratic Club has launched a weekly phone and text bank in battleground states in an effort to provide further support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in the presidential campaign.
This announcement comes after the group organized a weekly phone and text bank at the end of September for Bronxites looking to get involved in the political process.
The new weekly phone and text bank also builds upon the successful debate watch party that the Chippewa Democratic Club hosted on Tuesday, Sept. 10, drawing more than 50 people, as well as local elected officials, including Assembly Members Yudelka Tapia and Landon Dais and New York City Council Member and Majority Leader Amanda Farias.
For those who wish to get involved in the phone and text bank, prior experience is not necessary. The only requirements are a smartphone or tablet, a friendly attitude and the willingness to learn. The remaining outreach events will each take place at the Chippewa Democratic Club, located at 1450 Commerce Ave., on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Wednesday, Oct. 23 and Wednesday, Oct. 30. Each outreach event will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and feature light food and refreshments for the volunteers.
The Chippewa Democratic Club is also making voter registration forms available for those looking to vote before the deadline on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Local elected officials, including State Senator Nathalia Fernandez, Assembly Member Michael Benedetto, Council Member Farias and District Leaders John Doyle, Rebecca Nieves and Tremaine O’Garro, have also gotten involved in the efforts of the Chippewa Democratic Club.
“I’m excited to join the Chippewa Democratic Club in launching a phone and text banking campaign in support of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz,” State Senator Fernandez said. “This is a pivotal election for the future of our country, and I’m proud to stand with this club as we work to build a strong grassroots movement behind this ticket. Together, we’re mobilizing voters and ensuring that our community’s voice is heard in this critical fight for our democracy.”
“For over a century, the Chippewa Democratic Club has stood at the forefront of Democratic values, both locally and around the country. This election is critical for our community and we must do everything in our power to elect Kamala Harris as our next President,” Assembly Member Benedetto said. “I am deeply appreciative of the Chippewa Club and our District Leaders for their efforts to activate our local community in this vital national priority.”
“Happy to be with the Chippewa Democratic Club for our text banking campaign launch to get out the vote in support of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. This election will determine the future of our democracy and our borough’s continued success; we must ensure the Bronx is represented at the ballot box,” Council Member Farias said. “I am proud to be with our club tonight and through this season as we continue to build a strong movement to elect the most qualified candidate for President who represents our values.”
“We are proud to work with the Chippewa Club leadership and members to offer several ways to help Kamala Harris and the Democratic ticket, right here from the Bronx,” District Leaders Doyle, Nieves and O’Garro said. “So many people are enthusiastic about this election. It’s important that we channel that energy into effective advocacy that helps persuade voters and thus influences public policy. Even if you have never volunteered before, just come down to the club and we will help get you involved.”
