The East Bronx History Forum and Huntington Free Library are pleased to announce the Forum will hold its 173rd meeting on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. A remote Zoom presentation by Chief Experience Officer of Untapped New York and Fordham University Rose Hill Alumnus, Justin Rivers, as he guides you through the history of one of the Bronx’s oldest institutes of higher learning and its influence on the Bronx and New York City itself.

In this talk, we’ll unpack hidden gems like how the Ram became the university’s beloved mascot to how the New York Central Railroad shaped the development of the Bronx. Topics to be presented include: How both Fordham and Rose Hill got their names and the close connections between Edgar Allan Poe and the small band of Jesuits that shared the same Bronx neighborhood in the 1840’s. Additionally, we will examine how Rose Hill and Grand Central Terminal are still intimately connected today and how the New York Central was pivotal to the success of the Fordham neighborhood and Rose Hill Campus.
