After five years as the district manager for Community Board 8, Ciara Gannon has moved to a new position at the Bronx Borough President’s office.

Gannon is now working as the director of community boards and legislative affairs for the borough president.

The Woodlawn Heights native told the Bronx Times in an interview that she’s excited for her new role.

“I’m super proud to be a part of this team,” Gannon said. “Everyone has been really welcoming and it’s nice to have my experience and thoughts valued.”

She was tabbed the district manager of CB8 — which covers the neighborhoods of Fieldston, Kingsbridge, Kingsbridge Heights, Marble Hill, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil and Van Cortlandt Village — back in 2018.

She studied political science and environmental studies at Siena College, during which she worked for the Siena Research Institute and as an intern for Sen. Chuck Schumer. Gannon later went on to get her MPA in government at Pace University.

Now as the director of community boards and legislative affairs, she said she’s working to fill out Bronx CBs with a younger, more diverse group.

“I am committed to the Borough President’s emphasis on filling the board to reflect the borough — and by that I mean people who live in public housing, youth, people in marginalized communities,” Gannon said. “We need to see more people like that on our boards.”

To start, she said the BP’s office has released bilingual electronic applications. That, along with different public appearances across the borough’s schools, social organizations and outreach campaigns, will help recruit members who are more representative of the Bronx, Gannon said.

Michael Ivory, director of communications for the borough president, said Gannon is an asset to the team.

“Ciara’s been incredible, it’s a huge undertaking to join the community board unit,” he said. “She’s been informing us of things that we can do better and things that we hope to see improve the community board process.”
