Late night fire at Soundview tire shop displaces residents, injures firefighter

Firefighters fought heavy fire throughout a one-story tire shop, located at 1878 Cross Bronx Expressway, on Tuesday night, just before 10:30 p.m.

The three-alarm blaze in the Soundview section of the Bronx extended into an adjoining three-story mixed-use structure that housed Miguel’s flowers on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floors. Several residents were displaced by the fire across from Virginia Park.

FNDY responded to the scene with 33 units and 133 firefighters, who used five hose lines and three tower ladders to knock down the main body of fire over safety concerns of a roof collapse.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition. The fire was placed under control at 1:11 a.m on Wednesday morning.
