The summer concert series is back.

Senator Jeff Klein has released the schedule for the outdoor music and movie events that take place in parks throughout his district each year.

It’s been almost 20 years since he started providing free concerts in the summer, said Klein.

The idea came from attending outdoor cultural events in Manhattan during the summer, and realizing there was a lack of similar opportunities closer to home.

“There was not the same type of free entertainment available in the Bronx,” he said.

When he was elected, he made it a priority, and the concert series has grown into something that residents throughout his district, which includes Throggs Neck, Morris Park and Riverdale, get excited about each year.

Klein said he starts fielding questions about the concert schedule as soon as the weather gets warm.

“People really enjoy it, they look forward to it,” he said. “It’s become a tradition.”

The events are an opportunity for residents to connect with family, friends and neighbors as they enjoy great music outdoors, he said.

The concerts are also a boon for local businesses, especially restaurants, as residents decide to make a night of it, said Klein.

“We have hundreds and hundreds of people that come out,” he said.

This year’s line up includes 60s singing sensations Chubby Checker and Engelbert Humperdinck.

Attendees should bring chairs or blankets to the park.
