RAIR – a new way to spell ‘rare’

A Morris Park retailer has opened a unique business clothing store.

RAIR, a fashion emporium located at 988B Morris Park Avenue features men’s urban clothing brands.

The shop has received positive reviews from the community since it opened.

RAIR, which opened in August, provides a selection of men’s denim pants, jogger pants, hoodies, T-shirts, snapbacks and even socks for its particular clientele.

It carries popular clothing brand names, including Undefeated (stylized as ‘Undftd’), Diamond Supply, the Hundreds and Embellish, among others.

The store’s baseball caps are manufactured in Washington Heights. The hoodies and T-shirts come from California.

RAIR’s moniker is a synonym for ‘rare’.

It also includes numerous artpieces throughout the store by the artist Naturel.

There is also a drawing book at the checkout desk, where customers and visitors are encouraged to tag their name or their nickname.

At times, some of the merchandize is marked down 20, 30 or even 40 percent, to make room for new inventory.

The vision for RAIR began when the store’s co-owner Andre Soto, his brother Albert and the rest of the family, saw an opportunity to build a unique, one-of-a-kind business in an under served area.

“In the past, when people from the Bronx wanted to purchase this type of product, they would have to travel into Manhattan, especially downtown, to buy the kind of items they wanted,” said Andre Soto, a south Bronx-born entrepreneur who graduated from St. Raymond High School and still has contacts in the area.

“Now, with this store, people from the Bronx don’t have to take a long trip – now these products are right here in their community.”

“Our overall mission is to expand the business while giving back and providing to the community,” Andre added. “So far, we’ve had customers who have been so supportive – some will come into the store to buy a shirt just to welcome us to the neighborhood. That’s very special – and it says a lot about the community that we are in.”
