Holy Name Society President Tom Tronconi issued an executive order to name the Holy Name Society of the Church of St. Clare of Assisi and St. Francis Xavier Parish in Morris Park after the late Anthony J. Merolla.

The Chapter will now be known as the Anthony J. Merolla Chapter of the Holy Name Society of the Church of St. Clare of Assisi and St. Francis Xavier Parish.  Merolla, a retired U.S. Army Colonel, served as the Executive Secretary of the Archdiocesan Union of the Holy Name Society of New York and was known to all Holy Name Societies throughout the Archdiocese. He was a parishioner of St. Clare’s-St. Francis’ Church and attended Rosary rallies at the Polo Grounds where the New York Mets, New York Giants and Willie Mays played.

Merolla also oversaw the publishing of the Holy Name Society’s bulletin to parishes in the Archdiocese of New York, wrote many of its articles as well as St. Clare of Assisi and St. Francis Xavier Holy Name Society news and events and lent his support to the Society by attending the initial Big Deal Supermarket-Holy Name Society Lenten Fundraiser check presentation. Father Salvatore DeStefano, pastor, serves as the Chapter’s spiritual director.
