On Monday, June 10, at 10 a.m., the training ship Empire State VII departed SUNY Maritime campus for Summer Sea Term 2024. Summer Sea Term is one of the requirements for earning a U.S. Coast Guard license.

As part of the program, cadets — either deck or engine license candidates — must accrue at least 180 days at sea before they graduate. Time is earned during Summer Sea Term journeys after freshman, sophomore, and junior years.  This year they are headed to the Bahamas, Azores, UK and Norway.

As they departed, the NYPD did a helicopter fly over and the FDNY was there with the water crew!
