For the 2017-2018 academic year, the Universal Literacy initiative will expand to all 164 Bronx elementary schools which will receive support from a dedicated reading coach working with kindergarten through second grade teachers to ensure all students are reading on grade level be the end of 2nd grade.

Participating schools also receive funding for classroom library and book purchases.

This school year, the initiative is being piloted in all elementary schools in the Bronx’s District 9 and 10 schools and in Brooklyn’s District 17 and 32 schools.
