Summer Film Screening

Come to Joyce Kilmer Park for a free screening and celebration of the 40th anniversary of the hit film “Beat Street.” Set in the South Bronx, “Beat Street,” is a 1984 American dance drama that features the early hip-hop culture of New York City. The Bronx Independent Cinema Center has partnered with the 161 Street BID, Bronx Community Board 4, and NYC Parks to bring this screening to you. The Bronx Independent Cinema Center is a new nonprofit organization with a mission to bring an independent movie theater to the Bronx.

Get your groove on with the Bronx River Sounds annual performing arts festival. The Bronx River Sounds Performing Arts Festival is an annual music festival held throughout June with performances featuring an array of Latin African American and multi-cultural rhythms. This weekend features musicians you don’t want to miss. Caracas Trio, a group of three Venezuelan musicians whose music is rooted in Afro-Venezuelan rhythms and melodic improvisations, will perform on Friday night. Edmar Castañeda, a Colombian-born jazz-harp virtuoso, is set to perform Saturday night.

Exploring City Island

Saturday, June 15, from 1 to 3 p.m.

City Island Nautical Museum

Admission: $32

Join the New York Adventure Club for a special access trip to City Island. Experience one of New York’s most unique communities under the guidance of a City Island resident. The day trip will include a brief history of City Island, a visit to one of City Island’s most historic waterfront properties, a stroll through downtown City Island, a peek inside the Nautical Museum, and a discussion about what it’s like to live on City Island. Attendees are asked to bring a water bottle and wear comfortable shoes.
