Nature’s Workshop: Insect-Inspired Art

Spend a Sunday during Women’s History Month learning about the famed entomologist, naturalist and scientific illustrator Maria Sybilla Merian. Art and bug enthusiasts will get to explore some of her most detailed artistic pieces inspired by insects, and all attendees will get to try their hands at nature art and illustrations inspired by her work.
Signs of Spring Hike

Exercise your mind and your body on an enriching hike through Crotona Park. Attendees will hike through the park’s trails while learning about how nature adapts to changing seasons and identifying the signs of spring.

Winter Birding with NYC Audubon

Join the Bronx River Alliance and NYC Audubon on a relaxing walk along the Bronx River, where you’ll get to see a variety of beautiful birds that are part of the river’s ecosystem. You’ll also learn interesting facts about biodiversity and wildlife in an urban community like the Bronx. Extra binoculars will be provided. Family Art Project: Divine Desert Dwellers

Visit the Kerlin Learning Center at Wave Hill for an exciting family art project, where you’ll learn about the plants that grow in warmer places of the world. Kids will get creative by drawing their own pictures of cacti onto plexiglass to learn about how the resilient plants survive in dry, harsh conditions.
Winter Workspace 2023: Drop-In Sunday

Wave Hill visitors are encouraged to engage with artists taking advantage of the garden’s Winter Workspace, where artists have access to free studio space to experiment with art and nature. Visitors will have the chance to view the original creative work of three artists in their studios and directly ask them questions about it.
Succulent Spring Division and Repotting Demonstration

Get more out of your succulent plants by learning how to propagate them at this free demonstration. Watch a Wave Hill garden expert divide and repot different kinds of succulents while guiding and instructing you through the process. You’ll have the chance to ask questions and buy your own succulents after the event.

Try something new at Wave Hill’s cooking with cacti demonstration, led by Bronx-based chef Nick Acosta. Learn how to prepare and serve a delicious range of dishes involving cacti, ranging from savory Mexican nopales to sweet dragonfruit smoothies.

Watch a funny, yet insightful play about Shakespeare, murder, mystery, offensive stereotypes and cultural appropriation at the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture. The play follows a director and the hilariously offensive mistakes he makes while trying to produce a Latino version of “Hamlet” set in Harlem, despite not knowing anything about Latinos, “Hamlet” or Harlem.
