The Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco) unveiled over 40 stainless steel, brass and rose gold recognition plaques on the façade of the Bronx Music Hall on Thursday, June 6, acknowledging individuals and organizations who have played meaningful roles in the development of the Bronx Music Heritage Center and the Bronx Music Hall, and in the artistic, cultural, social and physical fabric of the Bronx.

Bronx Music Hall champions, including Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., and former Assembly Member Michael A. Blake, gathered in the lobby of the soon-to-be-completed Bronx Music Hall — a 14,000-square-foot cultural hub that is the first newly constructed music performance venue to open in the Bronx in more than half a century. A show-stopping mural designed and installed by artist Luis Fernando Lechon called “Serenata a mi Comunidad”/”Serenade to My Community” wowed attendees and built additional excitement for the grand opening, slated for later this fall.

The Bronx Music Hall will include a state-of-the-art 250-person-capacity theater, a multi-use classroom, a post-production room and recording studio, a green room and two adjacent plazas for outdoor performances. Bronx Music Heritage Center programs have begun to transition to the new venue, which is expected to welcome 20,000 in-person audience members and students annually once operating at full capacity.
